AUP…Elementary Kids

As an elementary educator I am no longer amazed at the wealth of knowledge that 10 years old have when it comes to using technology.  Knowing this, I want to tap into that knowledge and show them how to use it to their advantage and mine. Blogging, creating websites, and networking are my main goals with them. With that being said it is very important that I cover all my bases by educating students about putting themselves out their and how to protect themselves. Then the next step is informing and educating the parents and the best way I have found to do this is through their children:)

A great teacher source for teaching all about the internet is a presentation which can be downloaded from Netsmartz.

Overview

1. Go through lessons provided by Netsmartz

2. Create Informational Posters with peers on the Wizzy Wigs.

3.Then go to Netsmartz kid section on their site and take the quiz.

4.Get a web license….by taking test, teaching parents what they learned, and signing the AUP document provided by KSD.

Frontpage-Classroom Webpage

Over the last four years I have been using Front-page to create my classroom website(Miss Reiners 4th Grade Class).  It is not my favorite tool to use although there are some things that I really like about it: look, ease, and MS office format.  I include information about myself, schedule, links for parents/students, subject ares, and student created websites.  The neat part about using it with students is that if they are familiar with MS office then most they can figure out on their own.

Where I hope to go with it-In the past students created a site that told about themselves and then talked about what they are doing in the classroom.  I hope to expand that and allow students to be more creative and make a site that reflects their own interest.  Another mission I’m on is to find a way to thread on Front-page to allow students to have dialogue back and fourth…which in turn will promote great thinkers, writers, communicators, and MORE!

Current Struggles-Can’t work on it at home. Keeping it up to date. Not being able to publish due to errors.
